Miles Wood had a tough season this year. Injuries prevented him from staying in the lineup, despite his initial assignment to the third line. Wood played through an excruciating herniated disc in his back for the first part of the season. His gritty style of play led to lots of injuries this season.

The Buffalo, New York native, spent stints on and off of the injured reserve during the month of November. The team eventually placed him on long-term injured reserve at the beginning of December. Wood did not become a constant in the lineup for the Colorado Avalanche until late January. From that point forward, Wood was fighting for his spot in the in lineup. In 36 games with the Avalanche this season, Wood had only four goals and four assists. With no real consistent time in the lineup, Wood was finding it hard to gain any ground when he played. When Wood was in the lineup, he was usually on the third line. He provided a heavy forecheck for the Avalanche that they so desperately needed.
The former Boston College alum saw the ice in only one playoff game for the Avalanche this season. In a series against the Dallas Stars that could have benefited from his heavy style, he did not play well. In Game Two, Wood turned over the puck during overtime that led to Colin Blackwell’s game winning goal. Wood saw no more action for the rest of the series after that.
