Forward Martin Necas will be a free agent this coming summer, read about his hockey history all here before he signs a contract!
As a photojournalist, John contributes both images and stories to Mile High Sports. He will cover both the Colorado Avalanche and Denver University Pioneer Men's Hockey Team. His 18 years of experiences as a visual journalist includes documenting Colorado Rapids, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, U.S. Women's and Men's National Soccers Teams, and NCAA Denver University Athletics match-play. His work is often published by Vox Media, SB Nation, Sports Illustrated, High Hockey, Bucs Nation and Burgundy Wave. He regularly covers the US Olympic Committee events, MLS playoffs and CONCACAF and FIFA Men's and Women's World Cup Soccer tournaments; in addition to, NCAA, NHL, and NFL playoffs, and Super Bowl games. He will be the lead photographer at the 2026 Transplant Games in America, a celebration of life for transplant donors, recipients, families and friends. In 2025, Babiak underwent a successful heart transplant operation. When not covering sports, he documents red carpet events at international film festivals, entertainment industry awards ceremonies, and humanitarian work throughout Ukraine. John is a first-gemeration Ukrainian-American. He is also a mentor to rising college photojournalists.
