The Colorado Avalanche have agreed to a new contract with their last remaining restricted free agent. On Monday, the Avs re-signed Fabian Lysell to a one-year contract for the 2026–27 season. Lysell came to the Avs through a one-for-one trade with the Boston Bruins on June 27th in exchange for Ivan Ivan. The Bruins signed Ivan to a contract only two days after the trade. The re-signing of Lysell will help solidify the Avalanche’s fourth line and bring talent to the Colorado Eagles’ top-six.

Lysell and his style of play
The 23-year-old Swede has spent most of the last three seasons with the Providence Bruins. He has only managed 12 NHL appearances, where he tallied a goal and a pair of assists. In 219 AHL games, Lysell has racked up the points. He has 57 goals and 106 assists. The former first-round pick is a highly skilled forward with impressive technical skills and an amazing release. He plays at a high pace with a ton of speed, something that will fit well into the Eagles’ system.

What to watch for
There will be two things to watch for with Lysell. The first will be if the Avalanche will take advantage of the kid in the system. Lysell has proven his worth in the Eastern Conference of the AHL, but the travel there is minimal. Traveling in the Western Conference in both the AHL and the NHL is a different animal. Longer flights can wear on the body. We will also have to see if the Avalanche will want to give Lysell more of a chance than the Bruins 12 games.

Multiple sources have said that Lysell has issues with teamwork and his attitude. If he didn’t get enough ice time, he would pout in the locker room or be very vocal to teammates about it. This may have been the reason he was moved from Boston to Colorado. But it would need to be something that the veterans on the Avs and Eagles will not put up with.
Lysell should bring some excitement to the bottom part of the Avalanche lineup and the top of the Eagles’ lineup. His talent will be something that fans will enjoy watching, assuming that he learns the system quickly.
