Avalanche will bring loaded roster to Rookie Faceoff next week

Next week will bring the unofficial start to the hockey season as rookies report to Rookie Camp for the Colorado Avalanche. Compared to previous years, this year promises much excitement. This year the roster is loaded with a ton of talent. Unlike previous years, we are only seeing one camp invite. This could be because the Avs are backfilling the prospect pool and players are sticking around.

The talent

There is only one invite on the list for the Avs, and it is forward Kalder Varga. He played with Beckett Hamilton in Red Deer and is committed to the University of Denver this season. He will be someone to keep an eye on. Recent draft pick Shawn Carrier will be playing. He stood out during development camp. Goaltender Ilya Nabokov will get his first taste of live action in North America before heading to Loveland to start the season. We have talked a lot about T.J. Hughes, who will get another chance to showcase his skills against other prospects next week.

That is just the beginning of the list. Other players like Sean Behrens and Alex Gagne will be in their second rookie camp. Hamilton will also play before reporting to Red Deer. The New Mexico Goatheads will be well represented with Grant Ahcan, Maxim Barbashev, Rilen Kovacevic, Nikita Novosyolov, and Francesco Arcuri.
