The Colorado Avalanche and the Calgary Flames begin a stretch where they play each other three times in the next 15 days. Colorado is coming off a disappointing loss to the Winnipeg Jets, while Calgary dominated the Vancouver Canucks. It will be interesting to see how the Avs rebound, with their playoff spot secured. The Flames are playing for pride with no chance of making the playoffs at all.

Colorado Avalanche (48–14–10, 106 pts)

The Avalanche lost a tough one against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday as mistakes piled up and cost them. Sloppy passes and turnovers led to multiple goals for the Jets while the Avs could connect in front. MacKenzie Blackwood has been playing some of his best hockey as of late. It’s the mistakes in front of him that are costing the Avalanche. The Avs tried to challenge a clear call for goaltender interference, but the goal was upheld and gave momentum to the Jets in the third. Following four consecutive victories, the Avs aim to resume winning ways Monday.

Calgary Flames (31–34–8, 70 pts)

The Flames went into fire-sale mode for the trade deadline this season, trading away Nazem Kadri, MacKenzie Weegar, and Rasmus Andersson. The Avs benefited from Kadri’s return to Denver and their enhanced power play. But the Flames have won six of their last 10 games, beating Vancouver 7–3 on Saturday night. It was a victory that saw seven different goal scorers and two power play goals for the Flames.
