The Colorado Avalanche will see a 2022 Stanley Cup rematch on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. If the Avs can take the game in regulation, they should have no issues since Colorado is the only team left with one regulation loss. We could see another NHL debut for the second game in a row on Tuesday night. Three-year AHL veteran Tristen Nielsen has been called up for the injured Gavin Brindley (concussion). Nielsen has been averaging a point per game with the Colorado Eagles as a top-line winger. It will be a showdown of the best goaltenders with Scott Wedgewood and Andrei Vasilevskiy expected to guard the crease for their teams.

Colorado Avalanche (7–1–5)

The Avalanche are coming off a disappointing overtime 3–2 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night. Martin Necas is now on a three-game goal streak to put him at nine for the season. Necas is also sitting fifth in the NHL in goals behind Nathan MacKinnon, who is first with 10. Against the Sharks, Necas led the way for Colorado, scoring less than a minute into the game for the second time. The Sharks fought back with two unanswered goals from Macklin Celebrini and Philipp Kurashev. Because he was the closest, a wild bounce and dislodged net eventually resulted in MacKinnon’s goal. Kurashev would strike again in overtime, cementing Colorado’s fifth straight overtime or shootout loss this season.

Tampa Bay Lightning (6–4–2)

The Lightning have had a slow start to the year, sitting in the wild-card spot in the East currently. On Sunday, they took on the Utah Mammoth in Salt Lake in a battle that came down to the wire. Former Avalanche and Colorado Eagle Jonas Johansson was in net for the Lightning, and he stopped 25 of 27 shots. Lawson Crouse got the scoring started early in the first, followed by Yanni Gourde. Anthony Cirrelli, who has been hot as of late, scored his seventh of the season to put the Bolts in the lead. The third is where the game got interesting. Kailer Yamamoto scored just over two minutes into the frame to tie the game back up at two. Jake Guentzel answered back, and Tampa Bay took over from there. The Lightning have now won five straight and are playing with confidence.
