The Colorado Avalanche took on the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers on Sunday. Regrettably, the Avalanche suffered more than one loss. Colorado would end the game with their third regulation loss of the year with a final score of 2–1. On the bright side, forward Gavin Brindley returned from injury after missing one game.

No matter the outcome of the game on Sunday afternoon for the Avalanche, the primary concern is for Gabriel Landeskog. Less than two minutes into the second period, Landeskog toe-picked and ran into the goalpost. When the Swede hit the post, the post dismounted, but you could tell something was not right with him. He did not budge, because of the impact on his ribs. The captain, staying upon the ice, required help from Nathan MacKinnon plus the trainer to depart. At the start of the third period, the team declared he would not return to the game with an upper-body injury.

#Avs coach Jared Bednar said Gabe Landeskog and Devon Toews are both going to “miss some time.” Landeskog is still being evaluated.
On Landeskog, Scott Wedgewood said “rib cage area” … Nathan MacKinnon said (paraphrasing) bones heal easier than ligaments/tendons.

A twisted knee was the primary worry, causing him to collapse. Altitude Sports commentator John-Michael Liles (JML) pointed out that the best thing was Landeskog did not reach for his knee. JML also pointed out that Landeskog was walking once he reached the tunnel, albeit with trouble breathing, but under his own power. A schedule regarding the injury might arrive at the start of the week.

The Avalanche power play fell flat once again on Sunday. Coming into the game, the Avs were converting 16.8 percent of their chances. But in the game against the Panthers, they went 0-for-4. The loss stemmed from failed conversions, depriving the Avs of a point.
The injuries are stacking up for Colorado as we have passed game 41 of the season. Goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood and Joel Kiviranta did not travel with the team on the trip because of injuries. Devon Toews got injured during the recent Carolina game. We still do not have a timetable for Logan O’Connor either.
