Three unanswered goals by the Colorado Avalanche rallied them to a 5–3 win over the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday night. For the second game in a row, it was far from a pretty affair for the Avalanche, but they found a way to get into the win column.

The win moves Colorado up to 55 points, extending its lead over the Dallas Stars. It marks three straight wins for the side, and a sixth-straight game with at least a point.

For most of the game, the Kraken were the better team. They fell behind early thanks to a goal by Artturi Lehkonen, who deflected a shot by Martin Necas. But they responded in kind by putting all sorts of pressure on the Avs. It felt very similar to their playoff win over Colorado in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They hustled the Avalanche and impeded almost everything. The Avs had a hard time responding, as they did back in that series.

Of course, the playoff series led to some conflict and hatred for Cale Makar. There were questions of whether Seattle fans would remember and boo him. They did just that all night long. Makar ended the night with two assists and remained solid over the Kraken as he has been throughout his entire career.

There was more drama with history behind it, not involving the Kraken. Josh Manson and Mason Marchment went at it all night long and finally dropped the gloves early in the third. Brent Burns and Brandon Montour also went at it in a massive line brawl. Ultimately, it gave the Avs momentum, which saw them get two goals from Nathan MacKinnon and Brock Nelson in a three-goal third.

Nelson’s goal came just nine seconds into Colorado’s fourth power play of the evening. It was far from pretty on the man advantage. Against the league’s worst penalty kill, Colorado only went 1–for–4. Necas thought he had a power-play goal but was immediately waved off due to it hitting his glove.

They also gave up a power-play goal to the Kraken late in the second, making them play from behind in the third. Seattle easily could’ve scored over three goals in this game, but Mackenzie Blackwood said otherwise. He was superb all night long, making some big and impressive saves. That included a save on a penalty shot by Jordan Eberle when Manson covered the puck in the blue crease. On another off-night for the team, goaltending lifted them up as they found their footing in their eventual victorious feat.
