Team-led performances across the board for the Colorado Avalanche led them to a big win against the Anaheim Ducks on the second leg of a back-to-back. Despite being outshot 28–26, Colorado won 5–1 at the Honda Center.

Their 41st win of the season made them the first team to get to 90 points this season. An all-around solid team game up and down the lineup put up a solid result over a good and hot Ducks side.

Lots of big names stepped up in the win. Martin Necas recorded his 10th point since the Olympic break, continuing his hot streak from Milan-Cortina. Cale Makar scored the game’s opening goal on a wonderful shot, the first of a three-point night. Gabriel Landeskog, who has been “disappointing” to some, unleashed a rocket in the third period for a big insurance goal. Nathan MacKinnon, which was the Dogg’s 100th point of the season, assisted Landeskog’s goal. He reached the century mark in just 59 games. It made him the fastest player in franchise history to score 100 points.

Another huge standout was Parker Kelly, whose career year continues. He notched two goals in Anaheim, upping his career-high in a single season to 15 – and counting. He’s up to 25 points in 60 games. Jack Drury also notched two assists, both to Kelly. Brett Kulak also recorded his first point as an Av with an assist on the second Kelly goal. Finally, behind all of them, Scott Wedgewood was phenomenal. At times when the game was even and the defense was scrambling, he made some crucial saves. He ended his night with 25 saves in the win.

There was a bit of a scare with Wedgewood when he was run over by Chris Kreider in front. He was down and needed some attention, but kept playing. Sam Malinski also got a hefty, bloody gash above his left eye, which received some treatment. He, too, was able to keep going. Already without Artturi Lehkonen – who has been diagnosed as week-to-week – and Joel Kiviranta, it’s a next-man-up mentality for Colorado. With some tough Western Conference opponents playing every other day for the rest of the month, every point from here on out will be important. The Dallas Stars demolished the Calgary Flames for their franchise-record 10th straight win, while the Minnesota Wild defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning. Thus, the difference remains just six points over Dallas and nine points over Minnesota.
