The Colorado Avalanche roll into Calgary on a back-to-back to take on the Flames on Thursday night. It will be an interesting battle, with the Avs having no rest and the Flames having four days of rest. Both teams are coming off losses; the Avs will be coming off their first loss of the season. On Wednesday, the Avs suffered a devastating loss to the Winnipeg Jets in the last minute of the game. The Flames have had a rough start, unable to score more than one goal in each of their three games.

Colorado Avalanche (2–1–0)

The Avalanche suffered their first loss of the season on Wednesday night thanks to the Jets. Colorado played some of its best hockey through 59 minutes as they peppered Stuart Skinner with shots all night long. Unfortunately, Skinner looked more like Connor Hellebuyck in the crease, stopping nearly everything that came toward him. Jaden Schwartz broke through for the Avs in the second period to score his first in an Avs sweater. Meanwhile, Fedor Svechkov added an assist to the play to tally his first point for the Avs. They would switch roles in the third as Svechkov finished a pass from Schwartz for his first goal. With Mackenzie Blackwood in net on Wednesday, we can expect Scott Wedgewood in net for the Avalanche. Logan O’Connor is also likely to make his season debut after missing some time with an injury.

Calgary Flames (0–3–0)

The Flames are starting the season in a little funk. They have lost their first three games and scored only one goal in each game so far. Like Winnipeg, Calgary has seen a little drama themselves. Connor Zary asked for a trade over the summer and has now been waived and reassigned to the Calgary Wranglers. But the retooling for the Flames is taking time. Their offense is not producing as they are looking to invest in their youth and future. With the Flames averaging 5.33 goals allowed per game, this could be a great bounce-back game for the Avs. Dustin Wolf is not getting the help in front of him that he needs, and Calgary has been suffering for that.
